I've been designing websites for several years, but WordPress is new to me. Like most professional website designers, I do all of my design and develop work on an in-house development server.

Once I have WordPress setup the way I'd like it for my client, how do I move it from my development server to the live server? In other words, is it as simple as moving specific subdirectories and files or is there more to it? And which ones do I need to move?

You can use a plugin like backup buddy or WP Migrate DB.

There's 2 parts you need to migrate.

    1. The database with all your content
    2. Your files

    1. Use a plugin like WP Migrate DB and enter in the plugin settings for your live server. Then export and import the SQL file to a new database created on your server.

    2. Upload the files and change the database connection details in wp_config.php to match what you used to create the new DB.

Thanks Brad. Will the WP Migrate DB plugin also move all of the PlugIns I have installed?

Only effects the DB. Everything else you can migrate manually.
