Hi, So I finally upgraded to Genesis 2.1.2 from 1.9.2…I was overly cautious I discovered. So after expecting a mild coronary which didn’t occur, I dove into my site again. Understand please that even tho I’ve had this site up for about 4 years, I resist getting into anything re: code other than css. That said, I just put my site on a major diet, removing pages, simplifying the one’s remaining, dropping the upper nav menu…it’s been a lot of fun. But now I have an idea and I need some guidance:

I’m considering moving my Home page which now holds all my training videos and some from TED, and building a new Home Page. I’ve spent the last few days looking at my initial Genesis settings, which I still hardly understand and I don’t see what is it that makes the current Home Page, the Page that a visitor automatically lands on. If anyone has gotten this far, thanx and if you can give me a clue or 2, I will feed a homeless cat in your name.

    Hello,

You can control which page is your home page in your WordPress admin, under "Settings > Reading". You can create a page for Home, and a page for Blog and assign them as your static pages.

If you want to create a custom home page template, you would create a front-page.php file for that (your theme may already have one). To create a template for your blog, use home.php.

Here's a great article that explains more thoroughly:

    Hope that helps!

    Hi Tony,

Great suggestion and yes it did clear things up for me. Since the upgrade, I’ve been re-invigorated to exam the site and I’ve discovered, much to my distress, a severe case of ‘tunnel-vision’ on my part. I’ve been less clear than I thought I was being with Menu’s and logic. Seems I’ve been making the site for me, not my visitors. Thanx for the article and too, your interest.

    Hey Tom,

Glad to be of help! I completely understand...recently did a complete redesign of my website, also realizing that I designed it based on what I liked, not what my visitors want to see. It's so easy to get that "tunnel-vision" but glad we figured it out now instead of later 🙂

    Have a great night!

    Tony
