    I've done this before on another site using the information here
    But I don't seem to be able to find the correct code to modify in the Functions.php firl for the Modern Portfolio theme.

    The code may not work if you have the Genesis Simple Edits plugin activated.

    I do not have Genesis Simple Edits plugin activated. Tried adding the code below in the style sheet just below: /* 04f - Post Info & Meta ----------- */
    remove_action( 'genesis_before_post_content', 'genesis_post_info' );

    The post info is still showing.

    Try putting the code in your child themes functions.php file at the end using a text editor like Notepad++
