I see that Minimum Pro has a portfolio section, but I can't find instructions on it. And I was thinking that it could be shown on the front page like http://www.abbymalonephoto.com/ has but I see is using Modern Portfolio theme.

Before I start all over on my design and switch to Modern Portfolio to get similar results, is this possible in Minimum Pro?

Try going to Appearance > Customize and at the bottom you will see a section called static front page. Select the "a static page" button and put your portfolio in the front page section and i believe that should work.

    Hi moxiegirl,

Is it possible? Yes. Is it built in? No. My question is, how comfortable are you with code?

The Minimum Pro theme was created with a custom post type for the Portfolio. You add portfolio items using the link in the left-hand menu. (Make sure you have your permalinks set to 'post name' not 'default'). After entering portfolio items you can view your portfolio at http://sandbox3.mupplebee.com/portfolio.

If you want a portfolio section on the Minimum Pro homepage (instead of its own separate page) you would have to register a widget area and then add a widget like the featured post widget to your newly registered portfolio area. Did I lose you? Carrie Dils has an awesome tutorial on how to add widget areas that you can look at here: http://www.carriedils.com/add-widget-area-below-nav/.

    I hope that helps!

You could also use Brad Dalton's instructions here - http://wpsites.net/web-design/add-featured-widgets-to-genesis-2-0-sample-themes-home-page/. You might need to change the hook location but this adds a widget area where you would use the Featured Posts widget and select the number of posts you want to show up, i.e., 3, 6, 9.

I'm confused about how the portfolio works. I also want it to be my home page.

I added a new portfolio item by going to Portfolio > Add New When I went to mysite.com/portfolio I saw the featured image I had set up (which when clicked took me to the item's page).

But when I went to Pages > All Pages "Portfolio" wasn't listed so (as far as I know) I can't go to Settings > Reading and set Front Page displays to A static page: "Portfolio"

What is the thing that appears at mysite.com/portfolio if not a page?

Update: Nevermind. I realized that Portfolio is a custom post type and that mysite.com/portfolio is a normal page that displays all the posts of a certain category.

Check it out! Sridhar Katakam has solved this for us (I haven't tested code myself): How to show Portfolio entries on homepage in Minimum Pro
