    I'm not sure why, but for some reason the custom menu items (not pages) are showing up highlighted on the home page only.

    I would prefer that none of the items are highlighted upon page loading.

    What am I missing?

    Look for this:

    .menu-primary li a:active, .menu-primary li a:hover, .menu-primary li:hover a, .menu-primary .current_page_item a, .menu-primary .current-cat a, .menu-primary .current-menu-item a {
    background-color: #EEEEEE;
    color: #333333;
}

    Remove the background color - and change the #333333 to maybe #FFFFFF.
