    I'm using gensis eNews widget to create and op-in form. ( I followed along with this: https://genesisgoodies.com/add-email-list-signup/) -good guide btw

    Everything works fine with the exception of auto-subscribing to groups. Those familiar with mailchimp know that they recommend creating groups which are sub-parts of your list.

    Now when someone subscribes via my wp widget they get onto the master list but not into any groups. This wrecks any automation because now I have to go into the mailchimp interface and manually add them to the group(s).

    I'm pretty sure the solution is to add a hidden field to the eNews Widget but I'm not sure what format this should be so that mail chimp understands it.

    There's got to be someone here who uses mailchimp/groups.

    Thanks

    It's no longer noted on Brandon Kraft's site, but he previously noted that Mail Chimp does not use hidden fields. (See @ 8:06 in Carrie Dil's MailChimp tutorial for Enews Extended.)

    When creating an embedded form in MailChimp you can also see that the HTML does not include* any hidden form fields for groups - the group selection fields are in a plain ol' div:

    <div class="mc-field-group input-group">
        <strong>g1 </strong>
        <ul><li><input type="radio" value="1" name="group[12041]" id="mce-group[12041]-12041-0"><label for="mce-group[12041]-12041-0">Group Name 1</label></li>
    <li><input type="radio" value="2" name="group[12041]" id="mce-group[12041]-12041-1"><label for="mce-group[12041]-12041-1">Group Name 2</label></li>
    <li><input type="radio" value="4" name="group[12041]" id="mce-group[12041]-12041-2"><label for="mce-group[12041]-12041-2">Group Name 3</label></li>
    </ul>
    </div>

    The MailChimp List Subscribe Form plugin or embedding the MailChimp generated HTML may be a better option for use with groups.

    *Edit: You can add hidden fields to a signup form with MailChimp for certain user levels.

    It's been a dicey development process but I did get it working with mailchimp and eNews widget. In the Hidden Fields: input of the eNews widget I included this:

    <input type="hidden" value="1" name="group[15585][1]" id="mce-group[15585]-15585-0" checked="checked">

    I figured this out by looking at the checkbox source code that is created when You make your own opt-in form at the mail chimp site. I simply changed it to a hidden field.

    Not sure if this is a hack but it certainly does work.

    If anyone else is try to do this as well, there was one other thing I had to do to prevent subscribers from accessing the list of groups through their "preferences" once they were about to opt-in.

    I had to go the section where you develop an opt-in form and make all group/checkboxes hidden. Even though I am in no way using the form/code generated by mail chimp it apparently sets a global setting. Sneaky, and unexpected but until I hid the fields users could access my list of groups through their preferences.

    Have a site hosted on Hostgator. Trying to configure the eNews Extended Widget. Followed these instructions:
    https://genesisgoodies.com/add-email-list-signup/

    When testing the form get this error on submitting form:

    "Not Acceptable!
    An appropriate representation of the requested resource could not be found on this server. This error was generated by Mod_Security."
