There are now no options in 'Default Layout' in Genesis theme settings which has seriously messed up my site layout! Sidebars everywhere which I can't turn off!
Please fix ASAP!
Problem solved, I was using Genesis version 2.2 rather than 2.4.0. Updated it and solved all problems
I haven't been to this site in years but I'm having the same problem as you described. Could you or someone please explain how to upgrade Genesis? Thanks!
If Genesis isn't showing on the WordPress updates page, you need to download it from this site and update it manually.

Genesis has always shown up before as needed to be updated if that was the case....why wouldn't it show up now??
Is this an issue with the wordpress update? I'm not understanding.
Can someone give a quick refresher on the manual update??

Same issue. Sidebars moved and unused sidebars are showing up on the live site as "this is the Secondary Sidebar Widget Area. You can add content to this area by visiting your Widgets Panel and adding new widgets to this area." And Genesis isn't showing as having an update available.
Go to: Genesis > Theme Settings > Updates > check for updates. Make sure the little box is ticked. Then save, go back to dashboard and new genesis update link should appear.
baggs: thank you very much; that would be great except the update to 4.7 has somehow affected the admin area of Genesis theme settings also and there now is no area for 'updates' inside of Theme Settings...I think it has to be done manually, I mean manually updating Genesis. Been so long since I updated a theme manually I'm kind of forgetting how to do it lol, uggg frustrating. I guess just upload the zip file of the newer version...
Ok baggs are you sure your path is correct? I just looked on 3 of my other Genesis sites (one's that do not have any issues / aren't updated to 4.7) and none of them have the "updates > check for updates" area where you are describing....??

The only little 'box' that can be ticked is one that says "Enable Auto Updates" so I'm not sure what you mean.
Yes, just upload the zip file, BUT you have to uninstall the current version of Genesis first, or it won't let you install the new one.
Ok wow thank you titus2home maker so should I switch to a different theme first? Like away from my Child theme that's currently using Genesis at the moment??
This is VERY odd in another way I do updates on all my sites; all updates, how is it even possible that Genesis is even out of date on this particular site???
I don't understand why the most recent Genesis updates haven't shown up. I've updated every time it's offered, too, and mine was out of date.
It's probably safer to switch to another theme temporarily.

Okay, thanks to everyone for the info! I did upgrade Genesis and so far 4.7 is working okay on one simple site that I have. I need to go through Admin and see if everything is really working.
My next step is to upgrade two Studiopress sites (non-Genesis) that have old, original themes (Magazine and Church). I've never had any issues with previous upgrades so I've got my fingers crossed.

My steps:
- Made sure everything was backed up first 😉
- Download latest version of Genesis to my computer
- Switched and activated a non-Genesis based theme like: 2017 Theme
- Deleted the out-of-date Genesis Framework
- Uploaded the Zip file of latest vesion of Genesis via wordpress dashboard, do not activate this, just upload
- Re-activated my Child Theme
*** If any of you are using Genesis Extender backup your settings or make notes of where you created widgets / code with Extender.
Works perfect, fixes the sidebar layout issues. I just thought some might benefit by having a step by step list to go by.

I just updated our web site GmailHelp.com to WP 4.7.
There are a couple things that I'd like to make sure everyone, especially newbies do.
1) Always back a backup before upgrading WordPress itself. I use the BackupBuddy Plugin. Just make sure your web server has plenty of disk space to perform the backup.
2) As everyone here knows, updates whether they are plugins, core WP or Genesis happen often. Many of us are so used to performing these updates, that we just take things for granted and don't check to see if the update broke something. ALWAYS go back to your web site and go through to make sure "everything" is still looking and working as it should.
Perfect example. After performing a backup and updating to 4.7 I noticed our home page had a large white sidebar widget to the right. I couldn't figure out what was causing the problem until I found this thread. After updating to the latest version of Genesis, the problem on the home page was resolved. But did I eat my own dog food? Did I do what I preach? No.
Due to the enormous amount of traffic we get to the site, it didn't take long before one of our users alerted us to another problem. That being that all pages and posts now had sidebars - something we never use. The problem was easily fixed by clicking on Genesis then choosing full width for all pages and posts and clicking Save.
I bring this up to make a point. Just because you though you fixed one problem, doesn't mean others don't exist. I was so focused on the issue with the home page that I didn't bother to go look at any pages or posts. So make sure to put your site through it's paces after performing any update. Don't ASSume everything is ok until you check.
I have this same issue on one of my sites - can someone please link to the directions on how to upgrade manually - this site (Genesis) is quite out of date as it does not do the auto updates as the other sites I manage do.

Check Genesis version is at the latest - vs 2.4.0 that should take care of it.If you can't remove Genesis (delete button missing) from the WP dashboard go to cPanel access domain>wp-content>themes> delete the old version > upload new vs as a zip then extract. Check your site then I would delete the zip file as a matter of housekeeping.
Known issues wtih WP 4.7
Simple Social Icons released a fix today so check you have vs 2.0.1 for that or social icons are borken
W3TotalCache - disable it BEFORE updating to 4.7 I've seen it locking up sites and had to deactivate all plugins, clear the cache on the server, reactivate plugins and waiting for W3TC to issue an update before turning back on.Hope this helps.
