MemberWord Press 4.1 Add New will not install genesis.2.1.2.zip on Windows 8.1 localhost. WordPress (correctly) states no style.css file is found. When I unzip genesis.2.1.2.zip and copy the unzipped genesis folder into the themes folder WordPress continues to state no style.css file is found, exact language being: genesis Stylesheet is missing.
Leaving that instance of the genesis folder reside in the themes folder I then attempt to go through installing a child theme which happens to be named portlight. The portlight theme will show in Appearance > Themes but will white screen when attempting to Preview; hence neither genesis nor the portlight child theme are being recognized by WordPress 4.1 and the reason seems to be that WordPress insists on finding a style.css file in the genesis folder hierarchy.
I have tried dropping from the database and reinstalling a fresh instance of WordPress but genesis and the child theme continue to fail installing as expected.
Being an experienced developer (new to WordPress) I know I had to take a look around other files and declarations. In the next instance of a fresh install I put the genesis folder and the child theme folder (portlight) into the themes folder. I then opened the child theme's style.css file and observed...
Template: genesis
Template Version: 2.0.0However I've been attempting to install genesis 2.1.2 so I modified the child theme's style.css to indicate...
Template: genesis
Template Version: 2.1.2That did not resolve the problem. Attempting to preview the portlight child theme from Appearances > Themes continued to white screen. As I've attempted to make the child theme active during earlier attempts to install I not only learned that WordPress would still white screen causing me to resort to running SQL queries, drops and other such work to get back to an operable state using another Theme such as Twenty Fifteen.
How can this matter be resolved? Obviously I want and need to install genesis and move on to other matters...

MemberI attempted to return to edit but the edit link is now gone from this post.
Apparently, there is something wrong with the Portlight child theme itself as I had not thought about trying to install another child theme. Well, I have and apparently now all is well however not with the child theme I wanted.
I'll be trying to contact the developer of Portlight but I'd still like to discuss what may have gone wrong as I have intentions of developing my own themes.
