I am in the process of switching to Genesis Agency from Thesis. I have set up the Test Drive plug in, but I am finding myself floundering. Has anyone done a similar switch and are there any tips on how to manage this/what to do that is different than simply starting in Genesis from scratch.
http://www.thesmarterhomeoffice.com/Yes. Completed the move myself without any problems. I know some theme Developers who built child themes that work on both frameworks so its a pretty easy transition.
You could install WordPress locally using instantwp.com and test things out there first if you like. Its very easy to import your content locally using the WordPress export/import tool and add some images to make sure the content width and formatting all look good.
SEO wise Genesis have developed a handy plugin named SEO Data Transporter which makes it super easy to move settings if using the native Thesis SEO settings.
One thing you may need to test is the featured images as i know Thesis use a custom field with custom meta box for adding the url for a post/feature image. I would test this locally to make sure it displays in the correct position in Genesis.
I doubt you'll have any problems.

The difficulty is I am a small business owner and not a web developer, so a lot of the available information (like Set-Up Genesis for Beginners) assumes knowledge that I don't possess.
Right now I am looking at the Import/Export set up for Genesis and I have no idea what a .json file is, where I would find it and how I would work with it. I copied and pasted Google Analytics code but not sure it is the correct code. That's the non-techie level I am at.
I am sure I will succeed in transferring my website to Genesis. It's just the journey to get there that has me confused.
I plan on using the forum for my many questions.

Are you saying that using the theme test drive plugin I can switch between genesis child themes without a hiccup?For Linda and those who read this later - the Import/Export feature won't be needed on this occasion. That's for exporting and importing Genesis settings between Genesis sites, which doesn't match switching from Thesis to Genesis.
