I'm using Quattro, and the footer looks the way I want it to using Simple Edits and completely overriding the default footer. But I'd like to ditch Simple Edits because it tends to override Simple Hooks and any functions I add in a way that makes it impossible for me to use certain other plugins and so on. Also, plugins are heavy, so why have more than you need? It seems Simple Hooks ought to be able to do anything I need.

Unfortunately, I've tried putting the code for the footer into every "footer" related box in Simple Hooks, while keeping Simple Edit deactivated, and I can't get my footer to show up in the red below the white body of the page (it shows up at the bottom of the white part instead). The only way I can seem to replace that footer in the red area is with Simple Edits.

I also tried the code at the bottom of this page - http://my.studiopress.com/snippets/footer/ - and that also ended up in the white. What am I missing?

    What is your code?

Please paste your code on Github Gists and kink to it from here.

Looks like you're running the old XHTML markup.

You can deactivate the Genesis Simple Edits and Simple Hooks plugins and hook it in from your child themes functions.

Simply change the hook position if needed http://genesistutorials.com/visual-hook-guide/

Better to use either code or plugins but not both as they use the same hooks and filters and the plugin will over ride your code.

Well, the problem with switching to functions is that I don't understand how to write them, can't find a basic guide on how to learn, and despite teaching myself HTML, CSS, a good portion of PHP, etc., I just tend to blow up the site when I try, so I'd need someone to help me write functions for everything that's in those plugins. If you can point me to some documentation on them, I'd appreciate it. But I've looked, and I have a feeling it's like php - totally undocumented, and what works on one site may not work on another, and it can be impossible to determine why.

Anyhow, here's the Gist link: https://gist.github.com/anonymous/f61efaae9850175ab44e
