I cannot see how to activate the secondary sidebar on the home page in News Pro, once the theme is already active.

I can create three-column layouts for new posts, categories ... Is News Pro able to show the secondary sidebar at all?

This theme does support 3 column layout - http://demo.studiopress.com/news/layouts/scs/

Homepage may be showing 2 column layout due to forced layout code in functions.php file - check for that.
