    Should I code these directly into the theme, instead? Not allow my client to update their widgetized home page, but instead write the post queries myself and skip the widget part? Or, in the case of something like the menus, is it more important to just cut out as much content as possible?

    Have any articles you'd recommend on front-end vs back-end optimization? Or how the two interact?
