    I would like to add a sidebar widget above the footer widgets that will appear on single post pages. Is there a hook that will place a full-width section above the footer widgets and outside of inner?

    (I have been able to add this above the footer but then it is under the footer widgets.)

    Take a look at the Visual Hook Guide. It should point you to the correct location - http://genesistutorials.com/visual-hook-guide/.

    Try this. Change the hook if needed.

    Thanks for the help guys! I also received this great advice from Jennifer Baumann. This worked perfectly and put my new widget above the footer widgets.

    You can add your widget in using action priority. The 5 below is a priority. Changing that number up or down will move the widget to different places depending on how many functions you have on a hook.

    add_action( 'my_action', 'my_function', 5 );
