How do I set different Home Featured Image for the Minimum theme on a per-site basis within a Multisite network?

The general guide suggests changing a specific file that would seem to apply to ALL site instances of this theme!

It's a limitation of this particular theme. On our network, we've modified the theme to allow a per-site image by adding support for additional widgets.

I suspected as much. Thanks for your reply Bill. Any tips on how you went about modifying the theme would be much appreciated.

It comes down to 2 things: adding widget areas and adjusting the mobile responsive styling. For Minimum, you can see our demo. We widgetized the area where the home photo would go, and in our demo I think we used a text widget with an image. You can search for tutorials on adding widget areas. There are plenty of good ones out there.

We've done this on a number of themes, but they come down to same 2 things I mentioned above. Another popular one is to widgetize the blog area on the new Streamline theme. That makes that theme a lot more flexible.
