MemberOk, so I went through the normal procedure of taking my site from my wordpress folder to the folder where the site would go live. I moved the old site into a separate folder. (http://codex.wordpress.org/Moving_WordPress) All of the wordpress files are now in the appropriate folder. But when I go to the URL, all I get is a blank page. URL is http://www.gpi-ca.com. So it's not recognizing the home page index.php for some reason. Then when I go to http://www.gpi-ca.com/wordpress, I can see that site minus the images, but obviously I can't loggin because the site name was changed in the general preferences. Can anyone help?

ParticipantDid you edit your wp-config.php to point to the folder that you have your WordPress in now?
How to do it is in the Codex page you referenced.
And also look at what it says about .htaccess.When I have issues, I've usually forgotten to edit one of those.

MemberYa, I looked at all of that. The hosting company has been a BEAR to work with, and now I will have to switches hosts. I had a backup, but somehow that got corrupted as well throughout this whole process. What a nightmare. Looks like I will have to build the site over again. So another related question…
The company I am building this for doesn't want to switch their emails until the end of the month since we are going with a new hosting company. The question I have is can I go ahead and work on the site, build it out, without pointing the registar to the new hosting company? Basically, can I build out the site, and then when he client is ready, point the registar and activate the email when they want to go live? I'd like to get it done rather than waiting all month. Thanks!
Also, is there a file in the wordpress folder where the text content is saved? If you go to http://www.gpi-ca.com/wordpress, you can see the home page minus the images. But when you click a link on top, it reverts back to the original site for some reason. So that was somehow corrupted in this process. Would be nice so I don't have to go back and recreate the text.

ParticipantYou will want to read the codex - http://codex.wordpress.org/Moving_WordPress
But this is a method you can use:
1. The text you add to WordPress pages and posts goes into the database. You can get it out by exporting it in WordPress. (You can also use a database export plugin or a backup plugin)
How to Export/Import
When you are logged into WordPress, you can use Tools > Export to export the content (leave the setting at the default for best results). This will create an .xml file. Then use Tools > Import (it will help you install the Importer plugin) to import the .xml file with your text and images. On Import, you want to choose the Download and import file attachments option to get your images to import.
http://codex.wordpress.org/Tools_Import_Screen2. Before importing you will want to install the theme you are using or creating.
3. You will also want to click Genesis > Import/Export to get those settings.
4. And finally you will want to Export and Import the Widgets; the WordPress Export does not export them.
I like Widget Importer & Exporter http://wordpress.org/plugins/widget-importer-exporter/This will usually get everything over. There's lots more in the first Codex link, in case things go wrong, and you may prefer one of the other methods.

MemberWow…ok, thanks. Seems like a lot. Hopefully it will be somewhat straight forward for a novice.

MemberWhat I was trying to do, is if a page is called (http://www.gpi-ca.com/?page_id=4), I just wanted to know if I could open a file up and copy that text. So if there was a page or file in the database, I could find page_id=4 and copy the text when I decide to rebuild the site.

ParticipantWell, go ahead and try it now, and see if it works the way you want it to.

MemberSeems easier for me to get some of their old text from their old site and just adjust it again rather than going through the lengthy steps above. I was just hoping there was an easy file somewhere that had the text stored where I could open the file up in Dreamweaver and extract the copy. Thanks for your time.

ParticipantThe 4 steps above are for getting nearly the entire site and settings to the new site.
If all you want is content, using the built in WordPress Export /Import - Step 1 above - is very quick. There is nothing lengthy about it. The other 3 steps are also simple Import/Export for widgets and settings. Yes, the first time you do it, it will take you a bit longer, but it is certainly less time than copy and paste and reformat.
I gave you the Codex link in case you wanted more info on other methods of transferring a site.
I wish you all the best.

Just copy the text off the screen by highlighting it with your mouse?
OR... edit the page itself and copy the text from the post entry box.
Content in WordPress is not stored in the files - it is stored in the database.
