MemberI would like to know if anyone has designed a website for a singer, band, or other music based topic? I'm curious to know which theme you used. I'd appreciate a link to the site as well. Thank you!

MemberHi,
I've seen a few built with the Amped theme which look very good.
Heres a few examples http://www.studiopress.com/theme/amped

ParticipantHi,
I used Mocha for this jazz site. I'm about to make a custom theme for a musician who has his own design ideas. I'm a musician myself. ๐It all depends on what type of music, of course, and there are infinite varieties. If somebody wants a really edgy hipster US rock or alternative type of site, pure custom would be the way to go. Obviously, the site above required a more mellow vibe.
Stewart's right, Amped is a possible choice. To me, it screams male, very loud, somewhat grim music. ๐ Probably not good for a female singer songwriter, a string quartet, or a party band. I'm hoping to be asked to do a Bollywood music site. ๐

MemberThank you both for your responses. I am new to Genesis. It's a little different design process when the basic code has already been done. I am expecting to have to customize the theme for the female jazz singer that I'm creating the site for.
So David, when you create the custom theme, are you planning to base it on an existing theme in Genesis? I appreciate your feedback.
Thank you both!

ParticipantAh,
So the client is a little like mine! ๐When I do a custom theme, I go from scratch. I just use the framework plus my usual base theme, which is a version of the most recent Genesis Sample theme for 1.9.2. It's got nice "rems" in it for fonts, a good wide base width, good responsive code, and other niceties. I've modified it with my own personal preferences. I also have many of my fave functions in functions.php. Since it's "my stuff", I can develop very quickly with it. I don't have the Pro Plus pack, I only have a few of the commercial themes. Most of my work is custom. If you have a PSD design comp, I'd be delighted to code it for you. ๐
I actually modded Amped for a client who was not at all in the music business, but a regular business. I told him my same comments about it that I said above. ๐ He thought about it for a bit, and said the women in the office agreed with me, but then he said "we get lots of people telling us the site is great". Of course, when you ask people, they're not going to tell you it looks sucky face-to-face! Or you've simply decided to only listen to people telling you it's great. Good old confirmation bias, the enemy of clear thinking everywhere! Or maybe all his conservative business clients were gamers?
I'd be interested in knowing what you finally choose. To me, there aren't any obvious jazzy music choices in Genesis, but some could be tweaked for that.
Best, Dave

MemberThanks for sharing that you used Mocha! I just looked at the sites in the gallery that used it and I think I can work with that. I will be designing a PSD to share with the client to help her decide design features. I'll let you know if customization is necessary. Thanks, Dave, for your feedback.

KeymasterOne thing I would like to add Carol is that Mocha is responsive while Amped is not. Most of my music clients want a responsive design. With Mocha however - it doesn't come with a slider area so you will need to add it. If they want it - follow Brian Gardner's tutorial here - http://www.briangardner.com/home-widget-area-eleven40/. If you do this after the launch of Genesis 2.0, please be aware that it may or may not work.
