    I added a new widget area to my home page in a 3rd party Genesis theme. But Genesis Responsive Slider won't show up.

    I disabled all the plugins, but the problem persisted.

    What sort of things would make the border for the slides show up, but not the slides themselve?

    I've made sure there are featured images for each post and they are present.

    If you are referring to your site thelusciouscottage.com, I see you have the slider working. If that's not the website you are referring to - please post a link so we can take a look.
