I've installed plenty of StudioPress themes before and I'm getting back into web design after not doing it for a while. I uploaded via FTP Genesis and confirmed it installed correctly. I then uploaded my child themes (have tried three different ones--Modern Portfolio Pro, Expose Pro, Foodie Pro). I keep getting the error that "The parent theme is missing. Please install the "genesis" parent theme." But, I can scroll up the Themes page where the error shows and I see that the Genesis theme is there and working correctly.

The only difference from now and the last time I did this was I no longer use GoDaddy. I'm using BlueHost now. I'm wondering if there is something in their auto WP install settings that is messing this up. Is it a database issue perhaps? I've looked for a response but they all say to install Genesis, which I've done. Please help!

Activate Genesis and then deactivate it.

Genesis needs to be installed in a folder called /genesis/ exactly like that.

If you had to rezip it or changed the folder name, this is why it installs fine and child themes cannot find it.

Child themes have code that says "go look for genesis in /genesis/".
