    Hello there!

I've recently upgraded a number of clients from various WordPress themes to Genesis.

Almost immediately, all of them started getting slammed with crazy amounts of spam (mostly comments, but also trackbacks and contact form submissions).

Is Genesis somehow more susceptible to comment spam than other themes?! It doesn't make any sense to me, but I thought I'd ask.

Aside from "after-the-fact" solutions, such as Akismet and Wordfence, is there anything I can do? Add something to functions.php or anything?!

    Thanks.

I would remove the comment form notes and website URL field which you can do with code or a plugin.

    Thanks for the quick reply!

Here's one page that gets a ton of spam:

There IS no contact form! Yet somehow it's still getting spam comments.

    Thoughts?

What discussion settings are you using?

I assume you have Akismet activated?

    Well, here's a screenshot:

My point is, nothing on the website has changed except for the theme. As soon as we went live with the new theme (on multiple websites), spam increased dramatically.

I know Akismet, Wordfence, etc. can reduce spam. The question is, does Genesis have some kind of magic spam magnet built in? I realize it sounds ridiculous. 😉

Check the box: comment must be manually approved.

    This plugin might help also.

Done and done! We'll see what happens. Thanks. 🙂
