I own a few studio press themes, but I'm quite a novice with customizing themes. It seems that the home page is easily customizable and quite attractive, while the inner page layouts are quite boring and not easily customized. Am I totally wrong here?? Please shed light on this topic...thanks in advance!

All pages are fairly easy to modify.

Specifically, what did you want to do?

I like using widgets to add to modify the homepage. Can you do this with inner pages? How can a layout be reproduce similar to the homepage? Thanks

Which child theme are you referring to?

Generally, to use a front page as a page template you would:

    1. Copy the front-page.php file and rename it.
    2. Add a page template header
    3. Rename the function names and widget i.d's as these need to be unique.
    4. Copy the code in functions.php which registers the widgets and change the widget i.d's so they are unique and match the code for the widgets in the new page template.
