I enter a phrase into the search box and cannot find a way to click it. there is not icon or button near the search box to send my search query to the forum search engine. Am I correct in assuming the empty rectangle to the right of "forum rules" is a search/query box?
Just hit enter (aka return) after you enter your word or words. Search boxes on WordPress sites often work that way, too.
