MemberIs there any way to format (layout, columns) Shopp e-commerce pages from within a Genesis themed site? Rugs from Rags
I'm on a call with the Shopp people, and they want me to move to Builder and don't have anything to say about Genesis / StudioPress.
I've tried WooCommerce and MarketPress and didn't like way they worked; had paid for Shopp a while ago and wouldn't mind getting my money out of it. But my e-commerce pages are ugly and I can't figure out how to find those custom blog posts to modify.
thx

KeymasterHere is a plugin you can review to see if it will work for you. https://shopplugin.net/.

MemberNot sure I follow--that appears to be a link TO the Shopp shopping cart plugin. I already own that plugin and have it installed on a Genesis site. What I can't do is format the Shopp-specific pages (products, categories) from within Genesis tools.
The Shopp people tell me that the Builder Theme is better than Genesis, which it may well be, but I already own Genesis.
Will rant elsewhere about what a piss-off it is that all of these WP people blame each other for their incompatibility, WITHOUT giving the user / buyer any / enough information UP FRONT about what systems will play well with each other. Genesis is just as bad as all the others in this regard.
thx

KeymasterWell, to the defense of all theme and framework developers - just because you purchase a product from some third-party vendor doesn't necessary mean that the theme or framework MUST BE compatible. That's not fair to say that you blame Studiopress and the others for the incompatibility with the Shopp eCommerce plugin. If you want to blame someone - Shopp made a specific product to use with whatever platforms they wanted it to be compatible with. You should start there. If you need something specifically coded because YOU WANT IT TO WORK with YOUR WEBSITES - then hire a plugin developer to HACK the products you have to make them work for you.

MemberThank you for so completely answering my original question. I assume your answer is No, you don't know any way to do what I asked.
I blame StudioPress for not providing information in advance of the sale about what it will play well with. They don't even provide very much information about which theme is really good for what purpose, and I have seen this discussed in the forum before.

It's really really hard to figure compatibility out before dropping cash on the solutions that don't work. The information is available to the developers; they provide it in limited form after the fact. Mostly, it's the users who tell each other what systems work well together, and which are hopeless.
Thank you for all your help.December 9, 2012 at 8:51 am #4001AnitaC
KeymasterWell, I offered you a solution and you said you had that but it didn't work to your liking - so Yes, I did have a solution, you just didn't like it. As for them telling you what it will play nice with - there are a million different themes, developers and plugins - there is absolutely no way they can predict what YOU want to use their product for. So maybe, just maybe - before you purchase something, YOU should ask them if they play nice together or what they are compatible with - this way you can save money and most importantly - keep you from being frustrated.
