A few days ago, I purchased Envira Gallery. While I'm definitely impressed by its speed and ease-of-use, I am disappointed with how it handles images on smartphones. I guess I just assumed that in this day of responsive goodness there would be an option to display images on mobile devices at full screen.

Unfortunately, I found that's not the case. Apparently Envira Gallery wants to place everything inside of a lightbox. While that works well on a desktop computer or even tablet, all it does is take up valuable screen space on smartphones and make the images look much smaller and less appealing. I contacted the folks at Envira Gallery, who are always very responsive, with the thought that I must be doing something wrong. I discovered that I wasn't. Apparently, a full-size mobile image option is not available at this time. Needless to say, I'm very disappointed.

When I checked out Envira Gallery's biggest competitor, NextGen, I found out that they have a full-screen mobile option and it works quite well. My immediate reaction is to dump Envira Gallery in favor of NextGen, but all of the reviews I've read suggest that it's a much slower plugin and less intuitive.

So what do you guys think? Have you run into the same issue? Is NextGen really as slow and unintuitive as all of the reviews claim? Any help is greatly appreciated.

    Hi,

I'd recommend you take a look from when those reviews are.
I haven't used the newer version of NextGen but I know they have worked very hard to improve the plugin and its code base over the last year or so.

I don't know, NextGen has some pretty bad reviews: https://wordpress.org/plugins/nextgen-gallery/

I also spoke with the folks at Envira Gallery. They are working on a full-screen addon.
