We recently updated to the latest WordPress version and the site crashed because of a critical error in the core files. Lately, we haven't been able to update WordPress on three sites using this theme, and wondering if it's because it's such an old theme.

Should we consider updating to a different theme?

Try activating the 2022 theme and see if that fixes the problem once you update wordpress.
