Using the Author Pro Theme, I ended the footer text in the functions.php file as directed in the setup tutorial. However, upon hitting saving it crashed the site - I can't go to it, go to the login page, or anything - all addresses lead to a blank white screen.

I used FTP to re-upload the original functions.php file, but that didn't do anything. Any suggestions? I'm locked out of my site currently.

Tutorial? (There is no theme setup for StudioPress themes that requires any file modifications.)

If you've replaced functions.php with the original file by FTP then its something else/in conflict. Try renaming your plugins folder to disable all of them and check your results.

I renamed my plugins folder to "plugins2" with no effect.

It looks like you just reinstalled WordPress. Is this still an issue?

If I follow correctly, the only change made was to footer code in functions.php, and was done in the file editor in the dashboard under Appearance > Editor. Either the code changed was incorrect, incorrectly inserted or something else was also changed, perhaps inadvertently.

I'd suggest repeating the replacement of functions.php with the virgin file from the theme download. Check that the correct file is being replaced. (Did you perhaps replace front-page.php? or insert that doe into )

If this procedure fails, and the plugins remain disabled, you could replace the entire theme or ...
