I'm designing a news page, with four different categories. For each category, I'd like a specified amount of latest posts to show.
My client will create the posts, so this would need to be an automated feature.

I've done some research, and it seems like it's pretty advanced/customized function. Here's a link to a jpg with my design.

    Any advice or thoughts?

    Thanks!

    Hi there,

It looks like your four categories are split: 1 in the main body (showing 6 posts) and 3 each in the sidebar showing three posts each.

You could set this up using (for example) the Sample theme starting with the main loop modified to select only your "Latest Industry News" posts.

The 3 in the sidebar could be simply 3 text widgets each using Bill Erickson' Display Posts Shortcode plugin to pull 3 posts from each of the three categories. An alternative would be to use Genesis Featured Widget Amplified by Nick Croft.

Both plugins are hands off, automatic for your client. Display Posts uses shorcodes; GFWA uses a GUI widget. Both can be easily styled. Display Posts also has a good selection of snippets from the wiki to use for additional customization if it ever gets to that. Simple; no fuss. (They can both do more than what you need.)

You could also just use Genesis Simple Sidebars. Give each category their own sidebar with their own content. Then add the category names to the appropriate menus.
