Greetings, and thank you in advance for any help, which is very much much appreciated. I am reluctant to post the url, since my client is not ready to 'go public' until he's completely finished posting his initial content.

I have spent 6-7+ hours today trying to resolve the submenu issue, reading and searching and trying different things including plugins, and am unable to figure it out. I don't see why I'm having so much trouble, these things seems like they should be obvious. The Daily Dish theme setup does not seem to address this, nor previous forum questions that I could find, nor google either; unless I'm missing it.

Problem: I have configured the primary menu for categories and want new posts to show up automatically as part of a sub-nav menu under the appropriate category. I see how to 'select all posts', then individually slide them under the correct category; but then what would make the new posts ongoing automatically populate in the right spots, please?

Also - I cannot determine which widgets (if they are widgets) for the layout on the sample page at: http://demo.studiopress.com/daily-dish/. What are these called or how are they inserted/set up, please? Specifically:

    Featured dinners
Featured desserts (these look like posts)
Featured dishes (thumbnails across the page, but no text shown on the sample page)

    Thank you very much!

Featured Dinners, Featured Desserts and Featured Dishes are all generated using the standard Genesis - Featured Posts widget ... which you will find under Available Widgets.

I have configured the primary menu for categories and want new posts to show up automatically as part of a sub-nav menu under the appropriate category

The navigation menus are not designed to be dynamic in the way you hope ... which is why you're having trouble figuring it out.

Whether or not this is a good idea could be up for debate ... mostly for reasons concerning user experience, since a constantly-changing menu option could be annoying to many. But also, the search engines may interpret elements that have been marked with the schema.org SiteNavigationElement item type in a certain way that requires a degree of consistency.

Having said that, if you really must do this, the likely approach would be to register a new genesis sidebar that hooks into the wp_nav_menu_items filter. This would provide you with a custom widget in your admin area ... which would then allow you to use the Featured Posts widget for a category.

    Dear Erik -

Thank you so much for your speedy reply. I was indeed beginning to wonder if the navigation solution I was trying to find even existed; so you have solved that 'mystery'. As to the genesis layout widget, after reading your response I googled it and have found some helpful tutorials.

I really appreciate your kind help, and thank you again.
