MemberHey so does anyone know if there is a good plugin or something that could be used with a genesis based site to get a classified site up and running if not I've noticed from searching there are quite a few options and I was trying to figure out which one might be the best one to start off with.
The goal is to address that kijiji doesn't meet the demand of the area I live in as it only targets larger locations. So i wanted to put up something similar to it that would be focused my local area. Having it so people can list X number for free and after that if they want to have more ads up they have to pay a small fee so that it doesn't get over run by businesses. I was looking at ClassiPress at one option.
Or if studiopress is coming out with a classifieds theme that would be cool as well =).
Right now my local area uses a facebook group buy and sell page but as you can guess that doesn't really work that well but is very popular in the area as there is no other option currently.September 7, 2014 at 8:35 pm #123267AnitaC

KeymasterWell, what you are looking for is a niche theme. I don't think that type of site is on their radar, but a plugin could certainly work. I really prefer to keep things separate as plugins so that if one thing stops working it doesn't bring the entire website down.

MemberHard to say they have the agent listing one which is pretty specific and works really well. I used it for an afterschool and atheltics program site so they could easily add and remove listings of there offerings. So them going the classified route wouldn't surprise me and there isn't a lot of really good options.
Going the plugin route is good if you have the time or are being paid to set it up and configure all of the options. Which I wouldn't mind doing if I knew there would be a return on investment but it's hard to say people in my area might stick to the buy and sell facebook page lol.
So I'm trying to look at solutions to get it up and running quickly but not so quickly that is done poorly and then look at enhancing it over time based on it's actual usage.

KeymasterAgentpress is a plugin that they created a separate child theme for and many have developed genesis child themes to work well with it. Classipress is an actual theme with the functionality built directly into the theme with a lot of add ons. So there is a big difference between the two products.
