I'd like the background around the slider to be gray with a white border around the slider images exactly how it appears in http://demo.studiopress.com/agentpress/ except that the slider would extend to the end of property search.

Please advise

On line 895 you have the following which is negating the original css
.content #genesis-responsive-slider {
background: none;
border: none;
padding: 0;

If you remove it you should get your border and background back.
