    Hello,

I have 2 sites, one using Corporate and one using the News theme. Neither use genesis.
Today, oddly enough, both of them showed a similar problem (one I had just updated to the newest version of wp and one not updated).

In the Corporate site, I wanted to change a telephone number on a section of the page sidebar.php ...and although I've changed it (and been back to check that it actually had been saved) it isn't changed on the published site.

Can anyone throw any light on why this is happening and what I can do about it?

    Many thanks in advance!

Kinda confused when you say that they don't use Genesis. Corporate and News are Genesis themes. What exactly do you mean by that?

Also it would be helpful to get links to the respective sites in order to see what you're seeing.

The first thing that I'd suspect with behavior like this is caching. Do you use caching plugins on these sites and/or does your host?

Many thanks for your response, essaysnark. These sites were made with the original themes before Genesis came into existence.

There no point giving the 2nd site as the change that is refusing to change on the published site, doesn't show - it's a category that was ticked and then unticked, but the post is still showing in that now unticked category.

The site I have given the link for (http://supervanmoves.co.uk ) has had the '01384 ....' number changed to an '0121 ....' number - in the editor for page-sidebar.php it has been changed, but the published site is till showing the old '01384 number.

I'd thought it must be a cache plugin but when I checked there is not one installed so it can't be that... how would I see if my host does?? (I use Hostgator)

If the host is using cacheing then you will need to contact them about it. Their website may give you info on it or send in a ticket to their support system for help.

However maybe it's something else? I have no idea how a pre-Genesis site like that is constructed but my guess based on your description is that these phone numbers might be hard-coded into more than one page. There are different phone numbers showing on your home page as on the About page. In Genesis, stuff in the sidebar would be set up using the Appearance -> Widgets screen but it sounds like that's not the case for you. Did you check there as a possibility? The other thing to look at is if there is a home.php or other PHP pages that have the phone numbers in them.

It may just be coincidence that the changes you're making on these two sites aren't showing up; the cause of each could be quite different. The main common cause would be caching, otherwise these could need to be investigated separately.

Thank you so much for your help 🙂
You were right that the reasons are not the same for the 2 sites! The interior design site problem was due to parent and child categories, so that one's sorted.

I've taken note of what you suggest, but really thinking that maybe the time has come to face the unface-able 😉 ...and redo the site using Genesis version.
