    Hi,

I'm pretty sure this is a WP issue and not an SP issue, but I'm posting here in case I'm wrong, or in case somebody has had the same issue.

I have comments set to allow anyone to comment to a post if they include name and email. (I don't check either one.)

Everyone seems to be able to comment as intended, but when I reply to a comment my own comments/replies trigger a "Your comment is being held for moderation" message.

For the life of me I cannot figure out why this is happening. Any thoughts?

    Thanks.

Okay -- turns out that this is a plugin-related problem.

The plugin in question is Wordfence, which includes this option:

Hold anonymous comments using member emails for moderation

In WordPress it's possible for someone who is not a member on your website to post a comment and to specify an email address of a real member on your site. This behavior is suspicious and may be incorporated into a more sophisticated attack. So we suggest that you leave this option enabled which will hold those comments for moderation before they're published.

I have been using a 'member' email to reply to comments, but with a different name, so the plugin is actually working as intended. Not a bad feature, actually, but until somebody suggested that I dig into my plugins I had no clue it was even there.
