    What I'd like to do is change the background behind the text in both the footer and footer widgets, which seems to be governed by the .site-inner background color. I've changed the footer and footer widget background color, but that leaves me with a white box behind the text area. I'm still learning the ways of php, so help me understand this please. If I want to add a new class in the style.css to replace the site-inner with a site-inner-footer class (so far so good???) then i need to call for the site-inner-footer somewhere. Right? So where would I call for this new class?

    I'm using Genesis with WP 4.1.1, site is at http://192.185.150.46/~haddonmcc/wordpress/about-haddon-mcclellan/

    Hi Jan,

    no need for extra classes.

    Just be more specific in your css selectors:

    .footer-widgets .wrap,
    .site-footer .wrap {
    		background: none;
    }
