    Quick question... if I change to a different genesis child theme will i lose all of my widget content, etc. I know this happens if I change to a non genesis theme. thanks for any info on this.

    You don't lose the content of them, but the widgets may move into a different widget area or in the Inactive Widget area. Since a lot of themes have different widgets names and classes, when you switch there may not be a widget area with the same name as your current theme which will throw it into that Inactive or unknown widget area.
