MemberHello everyone,
I decided to give this blog thing a shot and for the life of me I don't know why I chose to pay for everything rather than go for the free route, but that is what the dummies book suggested. Anyway, I got genesis and adorable theme. I thought everything would be in tutorials. A lot is, but it is in a language for someone who is not 100% new to this. I went out and bought "Wordpress All in One for Dummies", but I am even having trouble with understanding some of that.

Basically I want to know how to customize the child theme to fit me. I clicked customize and it let me change the name of my header, but it is plain and I want something fancy like I have seen on other people's "adorable" themed pages. With all that my question is where exactly do I start. I clicked the start here, it wasn't detailed enough. Is there somewhere else I can get a more detailed tutorial? I really want to make this work and I am willing to study. Thank you all!August 4, 2013 at 9:57 am #54114RobG
MemberI think the best way to get the feel of things is to view StudioPress tutorials http://my.studiopress.com/tutorials/ on their main site they have tons og infomation that's very helpful.
To speed up the process please post the link to the website in question.

Participant@lfisher81, there is definitely a learning curve to WordPress, and an even steeper one for Genesis. A lot of the Genesis features are very powerful but they also require learning the "Genesis mindset" - which is fairly programmer-focused. It can be quite overwhelming. Once you 'get it' though it's great because of how flexible it is. But yeah, not the easiest thing to pick up, necessarily.
This might not be the most efficient suggestion but you might want to break things down a little. What I mean is, you could go to wordpress.com and create a free account there, to get the hang of WordPress - you can't install Genesis themes there but you could figure out how the basic content management features of WordPress works and you can better understand how the infrastructure of the WordPress blog is set up. Then you can tackle learning Genesis / Adorable on your domain. This is a little roundabout but it might be a more baby-steps way to go.

KeymasterIf you would like a quick "get started" session, I can give you that to show you how to work around the dashboard and familiarize yourself. In my opinion - since you are new to everything - no need to learn EVERYTHING when it's not necessary. I can give you a quick overview and then you can go from there. If you'd like that, send me a message on my website using the contact box.
