I'm working on a theme and I'm really try to be careful to do things the "best" way and learn throughout the process.

The item I stumbled upon tonight was trying to add a link below posts on my blog page. From what I can tell I can pretty easily do this two different ways. One is by using the genesis_entry_content hook and then creating the function to add the required URL. The other is by running the WordPress the_content filter and appending my URL to the output of the filter. Both result in almost identical outputs so I'm wondering what the advantages and disadvantages might be.

    Thanks for the advice!

I would use the genesis hook as that's exactly why its included in Genesis.

If its only for the blog page, you could also create a custom blog page template

bbPress Genesis Extend uses the_content filter because that works better for bbPress. (Not better for Genesis)

Cool! Thanks for the advice. I think I'll use the Genesis hook. The only advantage I thought about using the_content filter is that the link would be displayed in RSS feeds and with the Genesis hook I don't think it would be.

But I know there is another filter for the RSS content so I can just use that as well.
