Hello! I am designing a site on a test server, the final version will be installed with a secure certificate using https for the entire website. I do not see an option in genesis for configuration, is this best done by plugin or htaccess, any help would be appreciated. Other themes I have used had an ssl option available on each page layout. (I am using Outreach Pro) Thanks!

I have just secured one of my sites with a SSL certificate. The structure and some pages were already present when I built it.
    What I learned

1-If im going to do SSL on a site again, start with it from the beginning. You will find yourself having to change any links within your pages to https.
2-I used the https plugin, that does let you unsecure or secure pages. I did not need this since I secured all of them.
3-I had to run a 301 redirect using the htaccess file to redirect all pages to https , because of number 1
4-Some plugins messed up https:, I could not get W3total cache to work with https, now, this may have been because my site was http and I wen to https, I don't know, but I was not in the mood to spend all day researching to find out why, so I disabled it and everything worked like a champ.

You are going to have a lot of folks ask you, why do you want to go https, I had a lot of people ask me the same thing, "if you don't sell anything, you don't need https"

Im calling BS on all of it, I went https because I think , eventually, Google is going to look at sites with https as having a little more authority than sites that are http. With all the spammy websites out there , I thought it would be good to go ahead implement it on one of my own websites, plus it was free to get the certificate. A lot of folks might think im insane, that's fine, its just my opinion and I don't think it hurts me one way or another.

Wow, thanks for the input, I am going to be moving the site with Duplicator which does a pretty good job with absolute paths, and then run Velvet Blue for any missed urls (usually in the widgets) So basically if I want all pages to https, just use a 301 redirect and don't bother with plugin! Thanks again

Somehow, HTTPS should deliver some web cred. If it's a deterrent for deter scammers and scoundrels, all the better.

So, how did you obtain a free certificate?
