    Do I follow the set up instructions for the "Genesis Framework" and then do the same for the "Prose" child theme?
    I am used to making my changes directly in the theme (Thesis) so please be patient with me.

    OR after putting my blog in maintenance mode do I just
    (1) select Genesis theme for my existing blog from the WP Theme page.
    (2) then select Prose child theme from the WP Theme page.
    (3) Then make all my stylings in Prose?

    OR do I have to do styling in both genesis and prose? I am a bit confused since there are detailed instruction for styling both Parent and Child themes. But I thought I had read that all stylings go in the/a required child theme.

    Thank you in advance for the "Dummies' explanation.

    Hello Music Lover.

    Just make sure you have the genesis framework installed. Then install your "child theme" and then follow the instructions for setting up that theme.

    i am a little concerned about your site being down while you are working on this. Have you set up a WordPress site before. Do you know about General Settings, such as permalinks? Tell me what's up and I'll see if I can help some more.

    The detailed instructions are for people who are using that generic "Genesis Sample" theme as their child theme. They have to install the framework first too.

    Thank you all. So it seems you are all saying I select the Genesis Framework as my Theme in WP.
    Then select the pose Child theme on top of that.
    Then I start styling the Prose Child only.

    Yes I have two wordpress blogs since approx 2007. I planned to put the smaller one in maintenance mode while I style the new theme. I have always done that when I changed themes in the past on the blog. Of course I have not done that in a while since I used Thesis Theme for the past five or so years and would make style changes while the blog was still up. I just figured I would put it in maintenance mode since it might take me a while to get the styling the way I want it using this new theme for the first time.

    @Sheryl wouldn't the general settings in WP remain the same like when I change to any other theme or is it different with Genesis/Prose?

    @scoe
    Thanks for the offer. I just ran into some crappola in my life this afternoon so I won't be able to work on the blog change tonight as planned. I will have to table this until this coming weekend. Argh. The best laid plans..blah blah blah

    Hi Music Lover,

    You don't have to ever "select" or activate the genesis framework. Just as long as you upload it, that's fine. Every time you upload a theme based on the genesis framework, it checks for the presence of the framework, just as any child theme will check for the status of a parent.

    Your general settings can stay the same. Feel free to post any questions here and one of us will help. This is a volunteer forum and regular support is also available by submitting a support ticket. I rec'd help from people here when I was new to Genesis.

    Do you want to post your plugins list here, and I'll let you know if I can see any potential problems off the bat. There should not be.

    @Sheryl and @scoe (both me)
