I've run into a little hurdle that I can't seem to get around, and I'm wondering if anyone here might have had the same needs that I have on several websites and found a way to make it work.

Several of the genre news sites we have feature articles by folks who don't really need to have back-end access to the websites, so after exploring a few options, I went with the Co-Authors Plus plugin. The downside of it is a complete lack of author box options.

Enter the Genesis Co-Authors Plus plugin, which works with Co-Authors Plus to enable the author box on guest authors... but it also enables the author box for everyone, every single user and guest author on every single post on the site, other author box appearance options be damned.

I posted some questions in the WP.org support forums under both plugins, and going on 6 weeks without an answer, and my Google Fu has also failed me.

Here's what I'm trying to do: for regular users, you can select to turn on or off the appearance of the author box individually. I want to also have the same option with my Co-Authors, to include their author box on a guest by guest basis.

Is this possibly a more difficult thing to achieve with these plugins than I'm imagining, or is the solution so simple I'm not seeing it right in front of me? Or is the solution a different plugin entirely?

You can use the User Role Editor - http://wordpress.org/plugins/user-role-editor/. Create user roles for the different Guests and turn on/off the function you want those roles to have. I used that and also this tutorial called - How to Enable Genesis Author Boxes Automatically for ALL Users - http://wpsmith.net/2012/genesis/how-to-enable-genesis-author-boxes-automatically-for-all-users/. So maybe you can tweak his code to a specific role.

Plugins like Role Editor and Members only work for actual user accounts.... been using Members almost ever since the day it came out and I love it.

But since Co-Authors allows you to have user bylines without actually giving them user accounts (something I'd been wishing that WordPress would add in itself for several years before I found a plugin that came closest to what I wanted), there are no roles or capabilities to modify or enable for them.

    Thus my current conundrum.

Figured it out. Instead of trying to add the functionality I wanted to the Co-Authors Plus plugin, I switched gears and added the functionality to the Genesis Co-Authors Plus plugin instead by limiting what users to display the author box on.
