Any tips for updating Genesis from 1.8.2 to 2.5.3?

I was asked to update a website that had not been updated since 2012 (!). I have updated WordPress and plugins in the latest version. But now I need to update Genesis from 1.8.2 to 2.5.3. I am not experienced with Genesis, I always use other themes. Does anybody have a suggestion on how to go? I suppose I cannot just press the Update button (with other themes such a big gap would always lead to errors). But I do not have any zip-files of older Genesis versions to make a stepwise update. Thanks in advance.

copy website to staging area do the updates and see what happens...

Thnx oijohn, I tried it, and the damage is not too much, it is a fairly simple site, so I can work with that.
