I realize that the home page needs the featured image to display the grid but is there a way to "hide" the featured image from showing on top of the actual posts? If possible, it would be nice to have the image appear on some of the posts but not all of them.
http://www.distinctiveland.com/Starting on line 35 of functions.php you'll find a function named ambiance_set_background_image.
This function adds the featured image to single posts.
If you don't want a image on some single posts, you'll need to modify this code and add a switch which enables you to remove the image on selected single posts.
