I need a little help here with customizing this theme. I'm not a php expert by any means, but I'd like to customize the parallax theme in a way that's not too difficult. I'd like to add three widget areas to the top right under the the slider area similar to

    Home

These are three separate, side by side widgets, in which I can populate with a text widget or whatever.

This theme is built on the epik theme. I went inside and found all the code for the functions and home php files, but can't quite get them to sync up correctly. I either need a really step by step tutorial, someone to show me how to do this simply, or I am gladly willing to pay someone to take care of this for me. I just need to get this done.

    Or any other suggestions?

Actually, you could accomplish that in Section 2 of your homepage without adding new widget areas, if that would make it easier. Instead, you can use Genesis column classes to divide the Home 2 area into three columns: http://my.studiopress.com/tutorials/content-column-classes/

Thanks so much for the response Andrea.

Good idea. I suppose I could do that. That might be easier, but I still need to learn how to create and manage my widget areas better. I have customization requests like this pretty often, and I am looking for a resource to handle requests like this. Are you interested, or do you know anyone?

And BTW, is it a good idea to try to move php code from one theme to another?

I can help you out later this evening. You can usually swap out PHP snippets between themes pretty easily, but it really depends on what hooks are used, what widget areas the theme already has in place, etc. In this case we'll need to edit both front-page.php and functions.php.

If you're available later, maybe we can hop on Skype and I'll walk you through it. Feel free to contact me through the link in my signature and we'll find a time to get it working. 🙂
