MemberNo, you understood correctly. I just thought I had been doing it properly and nothing was working. Turned out that I had been calling it in CSS with a "." rather than a "#".

MemberThanks -- that ended up not being exactly what I was looking for but absolutely sent me on the right path to success. Very much appreciated.

MemberThanks. Not a public site yet, but News Pro. I can use the demo as a good & similar example, though: http://demo.studiopress.com/news/
In that example, let's say I wanted to make the color of the Lincoln story title "Gridlock In Washington" neon green. I can easily do that now, but it will affect all of titles from other stories, because there's several 'featured posts' widgets in use. What would I do if I wanted to impact ONLY that one? I imagine I need to make it a unique class somehow I can then target in CSS, just not exactly sure how to define that.
Thanks again.

MemberBill's code snippet is great but doesn't say exactly where to put it. Is there further info there?

MemberIs this doable?
mpet29
MemberTried, and it didn't. Okay -- appreciate your assistance.

MemberThank you. However, when I switch back to the regular News Pro theme (refresh and you can see), the pic moves to the left, yet is still huge.
mpet29
MemberYes -- I did. I wasn't sure if News Pro was already a child or if i needed to do a child off of that for security. You think that was not necessary?
mpet29
MemberYes, I believe so

MemberIt is deactivated -- here, I was able to make it a live link to show you: http://www.fangraphs.com/tht/

MemberThanks! I did that and it has run successfully, but I am still seeing the same behavior.

MemberJust the Twenty Thirteen that WP comes with, and the Genesis parent theme briefly. I also downloaded InstantWP to test there (so, completely independent of the main site) and got the same behavior.

MemberIt's not on a live server yet so I can't give a link, but I can show what I mean. This is straight out of the box News Pro, I only installed it yesterday and haven't made any edits to CSS or PHP yet.
The widget setting: http://imgur.com/FypEdGN
The output: http://imgur.com/nJJBUf4 (the pic extends way north of where I cropped this, showing the guy's full face. I was expecting a 150x150 image as shown in the setting and also in the live News Pro demo.
Thanks for your assistance.
