Ah, so the code I created is for fixed homepage/category targeting, while yours attaches to specific layouts. Is this interpretation correct? Is there a resource anywhere for genesis-specific css stuff, because I don't know how I would have found the latter even with firebug.
I figured out the widget thing btw, just had to add the element after the class. I am very much learning on the go here. 🙂
middayminerMemberAgain, appreciate the tip. I installed firebug and rooted around. Cobbled out the following code which works, but I'm not certain if this method was what you were referring to.
/* homepage post text settings */ body.home p { font-size:14px; line-height:22px; } /* category view text settings */ body.archive p { font-size:15px; line-height:24px; }
In any case, I've run into a brick wall as to how to specify modifying an element (the content page widgets, in this case) only when it's in a certain class (the wider category view).
middayminerMemberJust set it up, and as with the others it works perfectly. 🙂 Last question and I'll stop taking up your time: Is it possible to specify different font settings for different layouts?
Why I'm asking is because my current line heights are optimised for the homepage(http://www.foundwonders.com/), but for individual posts and category areas I remove the secondary sidebar, like so: http://www.foundwonders.com/category/visuals/ , where the increased width breaks the balance for both posts and the new widget boxes.
I would like to tweak the line height and possibly font size for the main body text for that layout.
middayminerMemberHey thanks for the help, it works great now after editing functions.php directly! 🙂 Also, I'm not sure but I think that 'After Post' widget area came by default with genesis or prose. The ones you created have shown up now as 'Before Posts Widget Area' and 'After Posts Widget Area'.
There's a problem with bottom padding, but I fixed it with specifc css for the text widget.
Question though, is there a way to have yet another widget area appear every X number of posts? If I'm not wrong the default is ten simultaneous posts on the homepage, so I'd like another area in the center of that grouping.
Thanks again!
middayminerMemberI'll try editing the child theme's functions.php after this post.
Also, I've found that the after posts sidebar activates only within the post. : http://www.foundwonders.com/2013/06/extraordinary/ (I would like to keep this particular functionality however!)
It doesn't show on the homepage:
http://www.foundwonders.com/middayminerMemberAh no, I've added it to the input boxes in Genesis -> Custom Code -> Custom Functions. Are the two methods processed differently?
middayminerMemberNope, just these: http://i.imgur.com/VdLG3Z9.png
the final two are ones I've added via the content aware sidebars and widgetise pages plugins.
middayminerMemberrfmeier, I've added the code to my custom function section but it doesn't seem to modify the site in any way. Is there some extra step I'm missing?
middayminerMemberedit: Woah thanks, trying it out now!
Taking a look at simple hooks.middayminerMemberNevermind, found all of the settings by looking at the theme stylesheet. 🙂
middayminerMemberNo, I'm using firefox 21, but I found the problem. Ugh, it has something to do with noscript doing something weird even though I've whitelisted the page. Must be one of the other supplementary 'protection' features. Playing with settings now.
Oh and you're right about it being hideously dark! Terrible, terrible text font.
Edit: FOUND IT! googleusercontent needs to be whitelisted as well, even though it doesn't show up in the noscript menu for my site. Thanks dev!
Edit 2: Forgot to ask, how do I specify separate font usage for sidebars, widget text, the nav menu and header/tagline ?
middayminerMemberConfirming here that this is now the code I have in custom csss:
@import url(http://fonts.googleapis.com/css?family=Oswald); body, p { font-family: 'Oswald','Century Gothic', sans-serif; }
However, nothing's changed. I should mention that tech support said this: "Unfortunately, we are not able to provide assistance with this, as it will require customization to your theme’s code. Your customization question would be a great question for the community forums."
My question involved the sidebar background color, google fonts and manually adding layouts.Just found this: http://www.wpbeginner.com/wp-themes/how-add-google-web-fonts-wordpress-themes/
I temporarily removed the custom css and added this in custom code instead:
add_action( 'genesis_meta', 'wpb_add_google_fonts', 5); function wpb_add_google_fonts() { echo '<link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" href="http://fonts.googleapis.com/css?family=Lora|Oswald" media="screen">'; }
Nothing. I even manually edited functions.php in my child theme directory with the same code and saw no change as well!
I've reverted everything back to just the updated css code for now.middayminerMemberI prefer to see it as being communicative than defensive. I've had enough real life misunderstandings by just not getting the other party to see where I was coming from. 🙂
Well, I can tell you why I chose Prose. Lots of design settings promised less chance of needing to code something to get the look I want. It also stood out by costing several dollars more. That must be the proof of how well the customisation works, I thought.
Right, I've unchecked minify in design settings and W3 Total Cache for css and html, just in case.
middayminerMemberWell dev, in this case I didn't link the website because I thought the method of implementing Google fonts was universal across the genesis framework, as I did not see mention of specific theme implementations here: http://www.briangardner.com/tutorials/load-google-fonts-genesis/
My decision to leave my website out was not a case of not caring enough to type out this scant piece of information, but out of a desire to keep my posts concise for the people already spending time to help me and discuss only the variables out of my control, i.e. the new code I'm trying to add.
Thirdly, my website currently reflects poorly on my technical knowledge and I take great relief in hiding it behind an under construction plugin.
In short, forgive my ignorance, here it is: http://www.foundwonders.comI've added this in the css custom code section, but it won't take.
@import url(http://fonts.googleapis.com/css?family=Oswald);
middayminerMemberBump -thoughts on this, anyone? Studiopress support directed me to the forums for this particular query and a topic search gives no topics for setting google fonts up from scratch.
middayminerMemberTo clarify, I added these in custom css and custom code areas respectively:
font-family: 'Oswald', sans-serif; font-family: 'Lato', sans-serif;
add_action( 'wp_enqueue_scripts', 'custom_load_google_fonts' ); function custom_load_google_fonts() { wp_enqueue_style( 'google-font', 'http://fonts.googleapis.com/css?family=Lato:300,400|Oswald:300,400', array(), PARENT_THEME_VERSION ); }
middayminerMemberThanks for that link pxforti, it worked! Now the link doesn't go to author archives though, I take it there's no way to have that AND switch the login name for the author with the displayed nick? I can get around this with tags I guess, but I'm here to learn. 🙂
Regarding the border lines below each widget, can I get more detailed instructions for the css? I don't know why Prose doesn't have this when it clearly allowed me to style the border below each sidebar headline.
Thanks again.
