It's a good theme - I've used it on my own site in the past. With any child theme though, you're going to have to go through the set-up documentation to get your site looking like the demo.
If it's not something you want to spend your time on, there are plenty of folks in the Genesis community available for hire to do theme setup. Let me know if you'd like me to send some your way. 🙂
Cheers,
Carrie

cdilsParticipantHi Katy,
Check out this thread: http://www.studiopress.community/topic/page-speed-wildly-varies/
There are some links mentioned that help you identify where slow-downs are, plus some discussion about how your web host plays a role.

cdilsParticipantThis script is appearing above each post and is causing the additional spacing.
`
googletag.cmd.push(function() { googletag.display('div-gpt-ad-1365088276164-3'); });
`
Whatever you're using to insert your ad script should be on single posts only and not on your archive pages. If you're using a plugin to insert your ads, see if there's an option to display on single posts only.
If you're manually inserting your ad code, you'll need to add a conditional statement for is_single() to make sure it only triggers on single posts.
Cheers,
Carrie

cdilsParticipantHere's another good site you can use to check load times:
http://tools.pingdom.com/fpt/It loaded up quickly for me. If you've cleaned up script calls in your site header and done some of the other recommended items from gtmetrix and your site is still sluggish, it may be your web host. If you're on an inexpensive shared host, speed can be very inconsistent.

Carrie

cdilsParticipantHi there,
I only saw the single sidebar layout when I looked just now...Your sidebar is set to float:left and your content area is set to float:right, so the two areas are hanging out at polar ends of the screen. That's not wrong in an of itself, but you'll need to change the width on your content area OR your sidebar to make them meet in the middle. 🙂

cdilsParticipantThinking (typing) out loud here... Since the page title occurs inside the loop, you'll have to add it outside the loop, which you can't do with a regular hook alone.
I'm thinking custom query to get the title then add it with a hook.

cdilsParticipantThanks, Mitch!
Here's a great site for honing your CSS skills: css-tricks.com. Once your "regular" CSS is solid, then you can dig down into using media queries to get things re-sized properly for different devices.
One thing that might help is to download the Genesis sample theme and study the CSS. There are some good examples in there. 🙂

cdilsParticipantHey there,
Did you get this working? The child theme doesn't have to "point" to Genesis beta. So long as Genesis beta is installed and your child theme is active, it should work.Carrie

cdilsParticipantHi there,
Here's one article you might find helpful on DIY social icons (without a plugin):
http://www.carriedils.com/social-sharing-without-plugins-wp/I was just Googling around earlier this week for additional tutorials on adding custom social share icons and there are TONS. Best bet is to find some specific tutorials to walk you through it. 🙂

cdilsParticipantHi there,
The link to your site didn't work. The theme is responsive out-of-the-box (no switch to flip, so to speak), but if you customized the CSS it's possible you "broke" some of the responsive elements. If you look in your CSS file, all the responsive styles are handled under media queries. You'll need to add responsive support for your customizations.
Cheers,
Carrie

cdilsParticipantHey Jason,
You'll need to access your site via FTP or your host's cPanel. Find the wp-content/themes/ folder and delete the Copyblogger theme. The idea is to get rid of that and see if you can successfully run the Twenty-Eleven (or Twenty-Twelve) default theme without problems. So, once you've deleted the CB theme, try to go back to your WordPress admin and activate the default theme.
If that works, then good. 🙂 Download a fresh copy of the CB theme and try again. Maybe it got cootie corruption on the original download.

cdilsParticipantHi Nathan,
Are you referring to the featured image on a post or where is the duplication occurring?Generally speaking, the title/alt attributes are good practice for both SEO and screen readers. Not sure I'd remove them unless they just really bug you.

cdilsParticipantHi there,
Do you have a Google+ account set up? That's where my Google authorship avatar is coming from, not Gravatar. I'm not 100% sure if that's the only way to go about it, but I know that way works. 🙂Cheers,
Carrie

cdilsParticipantOh! Okay, we were talking about two different types of titles. The title I was describing is what will show up in browser tab.
The page title you're referring to is being pulled from page-title.php. Do you want that area to always show the page title instead of the description? If so, you can change this in your page-title.php:
Find this:
elseif ( is_singular( 'page' ) ) { echo '<div id="page-title"><div class="wrap"><p>' . esc_html( get_bloginfo( 'description' ) ) . '<a class="page-title-button" href="#">' . __( 'Subscribe Now', 'minimum' ) . '</a></p></div></div>'; }
Change to this:
elseif ( is_singular( 'page' ) ) { echo '<div id="page-title"><div class="wrap"><p>' . esc_html(Â get_the_title() ) . '<a class="page-title-button" href="#">' . __( 'Subscribe Now', 'minimum' ) . '</a></p></div></div>'; }
Note: The only thing I changed in that code was to remove get_bloginfo( 'description' ) and replace it with get_the_title()
Cheers,
Carrie

This sounds like an issue with the forms plugin, not Genesis. I recommend posting directly to the plugin support page here:

Try visiting your Permalinks page from Settings. Sometimes that alone can fix funky URL issues.

cdilsParticipantHi,
Are you using an SEO plugin? If not, then the default Genesis SEO will allow you to specify custom titles on individual post/pages.
Go to any post/page edit screen and look in the upper right corner for the "Screen Options" tab. Open that up and make sure that Theme SEO settings is checked.
Once done, the SEO settings will be visible below the post content in a separate metabox. From there you can add a custom title.
Cheers,
Carrie
p.s. Even if you're using a different SEO plugin, chances are still pretty good you'll have the custom title option.
