Thanks for the input Mumedia. I'm not trying to make the widgets selective for only a home page. I like having them active on both the posts and static pages for the type of website I'm building right now, however I would like the option of being selective on which pages I would not like them to be activated such as privacy, contact, or about pages for example.
afinevoMemberThanks for responding Brad. This has been a tough one to get answers to for some reason. I created a Gist as you suggested and pasted the functions.php file. The code which I used from above starts on line 108. Please let me know if you need anything else.
Thanks so much.
afinevoMemberAll right! I have it working now thanks to some outside help with adding it correctly to my functions php file. It now shows up on every page or post if I activate the widgets. Does anyone know how I can make it selective? In other words, is there a way for me to decide which pages or posts I would like like these widgets to work. I need them on my home page, but I don't necessarily need them on a privacy page for example.
Thanks in advance!
afinevoMemberI guess I'll update this one more time. I didn't think this was going to be that hard of a project...
Thanks everyone.
afinevoMemberDoes anyone else have a solution?
Thank you.
afinevoMemberThanks for the help Vividvilla. I pasted the code to the functions php file as instructed and the header left and right widgets worked for the home page. It created a problem however. I have the Sample Page as my static front page which is the Home page right now. I'm not uploading any content right now because I'm testing how the site works first. The only page I have created so far was a privacy policy page for Google Adsense which was created with a plugin. Once I activated the new functions code, the widgets showed on the home page but all information for the Privacy page was blank. When I clicked on the Privacy Page in the menu bar, it would bring up the sample blog post instead even though it wasn't on the menu. I had deleted the separate home function php page but it didn't seem to do anything. I had to revert everything back, delete the plugin, then reinstall it to create the Privacy Page again. I'm back to where I started.
What went wrong?
Thanks.
afinevoMemberWow, I didn't know it was going to be this difficult to find an answer. Could someone possibly point me to someone who may?
Thanks.
afinevoMemberDoes anyone have an idea about this or is it something that I should request a support ticket for?
Thanks.
afinevoMemberI have text written in both the left and right header widget. If I set the home page to post then they both display. If I set the home page to a static page, then neither widget displays. I'm surprised that it works this way.
afinevoMemberAnybody?
afinevoMemberThanks John, that did it!
afinevoMemberHey John,
I now have a sample logo up, but there is an area to the right that happens to be the site's tag line that is bunched together like a paragraph. It runs from the black nav bar down into the white space. What did I miss??
Thanks!
Shea
afinevoMemberThanks John, I have a few questions before I attempt this.
Do I need to reverse any of the changes that I had made up to this point in my CSS files or does it make any difference? I can't find any reference to lines 1 thru 7 of your CSS example in my CSS style sheet. The lines I have removed at this point make reference to "background" in #title before and #title after.
Regarding "add support for custom header" in functions.php. I don't have that in my theme. I assume that is OK then?
Lastly, do I just add the "filter genesis title function" at the bottom of the functions.php file?
Thanks in advance for your help,
Shea
afinevoMemberOK John, thanks. I look forward to finding the right way to do this. It seems like it's hit and miss for everyone trying to do this. I wish Studiopress would have allowed for this in the beginning. I love everything about this theme except the ability to easily upload a logo of choice. I decided trying to add a header image above the menu wasn't even worth it.
Dev, are you saying that by adding that code to the end of the functions.php file I will have a header section under appearance that will allow me to upload an image to the height and width specified in the code?
afinevoMemberHello Anitac, you have helped me before and I really appreciate it.
I am attempting the same thing as the OP. I've uploaded my logo into the image folder of my eleven40 theme and renamed it logo.png and renamed the original logo1.png. I then went into my CSS to change the logo size from 78 x 265 to 90 x 350 since the one I want to use it a little bit larger. I also changed the logo from dynamic text to image.
I then followed the above instruction by replacing background: url(images/logo-texture.png); with background: url(images/logo.png) no-repeat;. I then removed all of "title before" and "title after". After all of that I'm still getting the blue background.
I thought I followed all of your directions, but obviously I've done something wrong. My site is All Garage Floors
Thanks in advance for your help,
Shea
afinevoMemberThanks anitac, it works great!
afinevoMemberWhere in the CSS style sheet should I add the video class? I'm still learning CSS so it's not very obvious to me. I can't stick it just anywhere I want can I?
afinevoMemberGreat, thanks for clearing that up!
afinevoMemberThanks for clearing up how to create a new custom category menu in a widget, but now I'm confused about your last post. I'm currently running the Eleven40 child theme off Genesis 1.9.1 yet I still have the category widget. If I update the Genesis frame work to 1.9.2 will I lose it then or will it still be there?
afinevoMemberI just tried that and it works for just sticking the banner in, but it doesn't create any of the borders that I would like to have in order to give it a clean look. I want to have a border above and below the add just like the border above and below the page title. I have no idea on how to create these borders.
