If you look on the forum there are numerous requests to exclude categories from the Featured Posts plugin. In the past this functionality was pushed off on another plugin called Genesis Featured Widget Amplified. This plugin has not been updated in over two years and I can confirm it does not work correctly with WP 4.11 on the Genesis Framework after a couple hours today of working with it.

Can we please have either the Dropdown altered to a <select multiple or an exclude category field where you can specify a comma seperated Category ID list?

You can create your own custom featured posts widget

Use a filter to modify the default output.

    Or

Use another Genesis featured posts widget which includes the functionality you need

I appreciate what you are saying but consider the following which is why I added this post to this suggestions forum:

1.) I use Studiopress so I can leverage professional development in their themes and plugins. DIY will not guarantee it will work with changes at a later time if I hack something out

2.) This plugin replaces one problem with another potentially in that it's another 3rd party developer instead of Studiopress itself adding the functionality to the plugin supported BY Studiopress

This functionality needs to be added or the cycle will just continue to repeat itself.

I think a custom featured posts widget that you hard code into the child theme is a great option and will impress your clients.

You are kidding right? How is hard coding plugin functionality to a single child theme in any possible way a good thing for a client? You are basically locking the client into a single child theme?

You can add the coding to a custom functionality plugin if that's what you want.

A custom widget is far more impressive than a plugin anybody can use as its unique.

Did you raise this directly with SP because there's no staff on these forums, only community volunteers and it seems you want SP to modify and maintain the modified version of the plugin?
