I thank you for your patience in this ongoing dialogue. I realize you do this for a living. So good of you to offer help in these forums too.
Still struggling. With your help got the background to go white, but cannot seem to get the header large enough or in fact, get it all there.
Using this code on CSS:
.header-image .site-title a {
float: left;
min-height: 200px; <– this should match the height in your functions file
width: 100%;
}And using this code in functions.php:
//* Add support for custom header
add_theme_support( 'custom-header', array(
'header_image' => '',
'header-selector' => '.site-title a',
'header-text' => false,
'height' => 200,
'width' => 600,
) );Can I prevail upon you for a bit more help, Lauren?
willyrParticipant"… to a number of spots in the CSS. Makes no change so far. Where should I paste it in the style.css page please."
Including "just before your media queries, instead."
Makes no change at all even after refreshing repeatedly.
WillyR
willyrParticipantTried relocating this:
.lifestyle-pro-red .site-header {
background: #ffffff;
}... to a number of spots in the CSS. Makes no change so far. Where should I paste it in the style.css page please.
Also, where should I paste this please:
.header-image .site-title a {
float: left;
min-height: 110px; <-- this should match the height in your functions file
width: 100%;
}If in the CSS where, and do I have to change the functions.php too?
Thanks,
WillyR
willyrParticipantWell Lauren, I added the code to the bottom of the CSS style sheet as follows:
.lifestyle-pro-red .site-header {
background: #ffffff;
}I did it first with the background as transparent, and neither it or the #ffffff code for white background made any change in the site presentation.
I then went into the functions.php file and changed the height and width numbers as shown:
//* Add support for custom header
add_theme_support( 'custom-header', array(
'header_image' => '',
'header-selector' => '.site-title a',
'header-text' => false,
'height' => 350,
'width' => 650,
) );Neither change "took" after I had uploaded the files back to the server.
Surely I've done something wrong. Any ideas for me?

Thanks.
willyrParticipantThanks. Will do.
WillyR
willyrParticipantThank you Lauren. I will make the CSS change.
The problem with the Lifestyle logo is that it will not allow me to upload a larger image. When I try to do so up comes a page "crop to size" and it will not allow a larger image than the one that's up there.
Thoughts?
Thanks,
WillyR
willyrParticipantHey Kai...
You may not be getting responses as most of us are in sort of the same boat as you. Newbies or almost newbies.
If you are planning on building a bunch of websites, then sure, the bundle makes sense. Know that all themes can be customized to suit the requirements, too.
As to e-commerce, there are many plugins that will help you accomplish that. Selling one-offs will mean a lot of work maintaining the site, are you ready for that?
One of the things I find annoying about WP and the themes is the frequency of having to update them. Each plugin has its own author, and each plugin will get updates as the creator sees fit. If you have 10 plugins in a site, expect to have to be updating the site as the plugins change pretty much every week.
Good luck. Knowing lots of CSS and HTML is a good thing, but not entirely needed, though having it makes modifying some pages to suit your needs easier than if you don't.
Bill
willyrParticipantFor sure. Thank you again for your kind assistance.
B.
willyrParticipantYes, you nailed it. Thanks! The W3C cache was impeding the reloading of the pages, I guess.
So, a lesson learned. The cache system is supposed to help the page load faster, but now, I'm not so sure it's a good thing, and I will delete it from all my WP sites now.
Cheers,
Bill
willyrParticipantYes, I do. Will disable it and see what's what.
Thanks,
Bill
willyrParticipantThanks for the prompt reply.
Here is the path:
wp-content/themes/metric/styles.css
I modified the style.css file that I had downloaded to my computer from the site's themes folder as per the path shown. I made the mods, and then ftp'd the saved modified style.css back to the metric folder under the themes directory on the server.
Can't see where else it should have gone.
Still no change on my site??
Thanks,
Bill
willyrParticipantHello sarag...
Sorry to take so long to respond... just dealing with issues.
Kind of you to respond to my plea for help and thanks for the CSS suggestions. They worked perfectly. Am looking at Google fonts now too.
Cheers!
willyrParticipantThanks, Jan:
I did that and the image appeared, but then had to add some padding on the left to bring the text in so it, and images, weren't butted up against the left wall of the text box. Unfortunately, now it appears as though the text box appears too wide and extends past the header width.
I also had to add white background to the footer area.
I like the background image, but I'm not too happy with how the overall page looks. Any suggestions?
Thank you.

Thanks to all for the help.

Unfortunately when I add this to the wp-config.php file
_____________
<?php
add_filter(‘https_ssl_verify’, ‘__return_false’);
add_filter(‘https_local_ssl_verify’, ‘__return_false’);
__________________and upload it, I get a parse error on line 92, which is the line with this part of the code: <?php
If I remove just that line and leave the other two, I get an error message that there are too many redirects and the plugin download has failed.
Don't know where to turn with this now.

This is the URL of the WP support note.

April 22, 2014 at 6:57 pm in reply to: Whoops, error message about SSL peer certificate or SSH remote key #101979willyrParticipantAnita, thank you. I was unable to find anything on this issue when I searched prior to my post.
My ISP referred me to a WP support blog which says that if I add the following to my wp-config.php file, it will resolve the issue.
___________________________
<?php
add_filter('https_ssl_verify', '__return_false');
add_filter('https_local_ssl_verify', '__return_false');

I am embarrassed to say that I have not tried this yet, as I have not been able to locate the wp-config.php file in any of the WP directories on my server.Thoughts?

willyrParticipantI thank you so much for this, eamonmoriarty. Worked just like you said. And, as you suggest, I will proceed with caution on my other sites too.
Bill
willyrParticipantHave disabled all plugins and it didn't change anything, Gary.
Further, I'm seeing this same issue on a number of WP sites I've built, some hosted on different servers. I am puzzled.
