MemberHi Victor Thank you for your reply. The source of confusion for me is that the sample theme is exactly the same in look to the genesis parent but it seems a to ship with a full style.css and functions.php file. Can I totally strip these out?

MemberI tried removing the padding % and as said the block pushed out (no white space). thanks

MemberThank you, Victor this helped me to understand this. I was aware of the padding lying inside but was getting confused with the percentages. The percentage padding is part of the percentage that makes up the width percentage hence it does not need to be included twice.
