MemberSorry, you can trash this question, I found the answer.

MemberHi Victor, thanks for taking this interest.
What you say about a Genesis update not touching the database seems right to me, but I want to find out what happened so it doesn't happen again. It doesn't seem to be a random corruption because all the approved comment_post_IDs have been turned to zero, which seems very systematic. If I didn't do anything myself apart from the update, then there has to be some other cause. And if my host has done something systematic to corrupt the table I want to know that too.
I can restore from backup, but with some difficulty. My auto backup software didn't do the crucial update (no idea why), so I have had about 6 comments since the previous update. So I can restore all the older comments, then manually enter the correct ID Nos for the recent few. So I need to be careful not to lose anything, and I don't want to do it until the problem is resolved.
If you, or anyone else, had any general ideas about how a database could be corrupted in this way, I would appreciate it. Thanks.

MemberOK thanks. I've contacted my host and will see what they say.
unklee
MemberThanks for your thought, but that isn't it.
But I have another clue. In the comments listing in the dashboard, there is no entry under "In response to", and when I use phpMyAdmin, that field is now blank for every comment (which I didn't notice before). That means that while all the comments are still in the database, they are not associated with any particular post, so that explains why they don't appear.
So I'm not sure if that could have happened when upgraded to Genesis 2.7. it sounds to me more like my host has done something I can't think of anything I have done to affect the database in that way.
I'll check with my host, but if you have any thoughts on how the upgrade might have affected this, I would appreciate that. Thanks.

MemberThanks again, it worked perfectly. I don't know why I didn't realise that hook was what I needed.
unklee
MemberOK thanks, I'll check that out.

MemberAny ideas please?

MemberThere is definitely something in them. It isn't that the widgets aren't showing, but that the widget areas aren't showing.
The webspace is at http://home.exetel.com.au/h2bh/
The original site has a whole bunch of widget areas that come as default (Site tagline and home-featured 1-4), plus I have added a whole bunch more (Start, Second-start, Start 1-4, etc) to show more links.
Now that I explain this, I can see that the default widget areas appear, while my new ones have stopped, so that has to be a key to the reason - but I still can't see what is missing, for the functions.php file seems the same as in the original which is working.
I just have to find, or remember, what else is needed to set up a new widget area.
Just preparing this reply makes me realise there was one more place I needed to check - that the right code was in the front-page.php file - but it too is the same as the original So I am still at a loss.
Thanks for your help.

MemberThanks again. I thought it was possible to get that data, but I did a quick search and couldn't find the information (I think I didn't know the best search terms).
That is very helpful thanks very much.
unklee
MemberThanks for that. But does Google search allow me to see what people searched for?
unklee
MemberThanks to StudioPress, the password information has been removed. Panic over!
unklee
MemberIs there any way I can modify the code I posted now?
unklee
MemberThanks, I'll see what I can do with that information.
Yes, I woke up in the night and realised with horror that I'd forgotten to take out the password, etc. I'll fix it straight away.
unklee
MemberHey, that did the trick, thanks heaps!
I'm wondering what the lesson is for me there. Like what does the content:""; do? And why is position:relative; necessary? I'll ponder some more.
Thanks again, it is just a small thing but it looks better now.

MemberHi Susanta, if you could help, that would be great. The URL is http://www.is-there-a-god.info. As you can see, the lighthouse graphic in the circle bottom-aligns with the title text, when I think it would look better if it centre aligned.
(The original where I saw this effect was Modern Portfolio theme, but mine is, of course, Minimum Pro theme.)

MemberHello again Ginger,
Well you were 100% right! Thanks.
I downloaded the free version of Desktop Server and it installed very easily. Then I took the latest archive (website and database) from my Backup WordPress plugin and put it in the Desktop Server Blueprints folder. And it all worked straight off!
It created a new (dummy) URL. It even seems to have automatically changed all the links to the new URL. It is an excellent product, so easy. I was worried that might be a difficult solution, and it was easy.
Thanks again.

MemberHi Ginger, thanks for that suggestion. Setting up my own server has been suggested to me before, but I have always been a little wary, for it seemed to be quite complex. But I have checked out DesktopServer and it certainly looks attractive. Although I'm not sure if I can download my existing site using the free version.
I think I'd still prefer to fix up what I have, if I could, but your suggestion may turn out to be the only way. I'll look into it further. Thanks.

MemberI figured it out. The size of the featured images on the blog home page are set in the Dashboard under Genesis, Theme settings, Content archives.
unklee
MemberThanks for taking an interest. But all the posts in question have a featured image, and all appear to have the full range of images in the uploads folder (and in the code when I use "Inspect element" in my browser), so I am at a loss as to why some post summaries show the full size image and some the size designated in the functions.php file.
