thankyou both for your replies, I probably should have waited to get an answer before removing it but I did save it and took a chance.
ThankyouTracyMemberI'm hoping to find a solution so I can change the permalinks of the original website that I actually duplicated.
So, what is the proper way to set the permalinks when first starting a new website. Install and change from default before going any further I guess?TracyMemberThanks, yes it all looks ok. I don't see any reference to the old URL anywhere in the database or in the Settings>General either.
TracyMemberThankyou both for the replies. I have been reading and trying plugins etc but am just not getting the reason why some sites I have been able to change from the default and others not. For example now I have used the duplicator plugin for a site that I have previously done to run for testing etc. on my local machine ie; localhost. I've deleted all pages but the homepage to start fresh mostly because of the permalink problem. And even adding a brand new page I get the same

The requested URL /OLIVER/about/ was not found on this server.TracyMemberI'm pretty tired of this whole thing, the website the plugins LOL. So I too am trying out the MaxGalleria now and initially liked it but not as much as I liked the NextGen (before the upgrades) I'm having trouble with the thumbnails stacking instead of displaying a gallery. I'm using the 'tight' skin. All browsers seem to be a bit different. Chrome stacks them on occasion until I refresh the browser a few times. Firefox seems ok (the times I checked) Safari seems to be the worst for stacking and doesn't fix it when refreshed and Opera looks good but the light box opens up on a blank white background with no prev or next arrows etc.
TracyMemberThis MaxGalleria looks good to me as well, I have been following this thread and have been having trouble with NextGen upgrades. Does anyone know if portrait and landscape images can be uploaded simultaniously and displayed together in a gallery without the portrait images cropping to match the landscapes. I believe it is called Masonry-style Galleries such as the Nextgen Pro here http://www.nextgen-gallery.com/nextgen-pro/
TracyMemberHi, so whats happening now... I've found out the menu issue I have been having is due to exceeding the menu item limit which in this case is 90. I followed some suggestions to create a php.ini file containing php_value max_input_vars 7000 or max_input_vars = 2000 and upload it to the root but it did nothing for my problem.
Any suggestions here?
The gallery issue..., well, I restored the site back a few days and then deleted nextgen then reinstalled the earlier version 1.9.13 and managed to get it working again (except for the lightbox??) I'm afraid to carry on with it however because well because it is so old now, what eventually happens? Will I ever be able to upgrade it and if not, will it stop working?
TracyMemberOh, thankyou so much for your recommendation. I will look at it for sure. Another thing I want the gallery to do is display my thumbnails as a mixture of portrait and landscape and not cropped versions of his portrait ones if you know what I mean. I was able to do that with Nextgen. do you know if that would be possible with socialgalleryplugin?
TracyMemberThankyou Summer. I've just been on the phone with godaddy and decided to restore all back to 2 days ago, I hope this wasn't the wrong choice and if it restores ok I'm sure the original issues will still be there.
I initially tried a few different gallery plugins. This is a photography site and he will have hundreds of images to upload and keep organized, this was my main issue and still is. If I have to redo the gallery pages in the end can you recommend a different gallery plugin that will do the trick?
1. I need come kind of organization for the galleries
2. I want a plugin that the photographer doesn't need to edit/resize all the images manually. Just upload and they'll display evenly. Thanks
TracyMemberThank you for the reply Summer. It's so frustrating when things should be so easy. I designed custom sites for quite a few years and started with wordpress just recently because I thought it would be so much easier and less stressful.. NOT.
So, I had reverted the Nextgen back to 2.0.7 this morning but it did nothing in the end so I ended up updating it again right away after. Do you think I should try the 1.9.13 you suggested?
Also, what should the permissions on which folders be?
Thanks so muchTracyMemberSo sorry for the inconvenience. It's up now. here is a direct link to a gallery. thankyou
http://birdphotos.ca/?p=766TracyMemberWell, I didn't know how to "put it back in" the way it was originally so I removed the customization code and then redid it. Thankyou for the reply
October 1, 2013 at 1:24 pm in reply to: changing a wordpress that is not genesis or a studio press theme #64978TracyMemberthankyou Susan, and good tip about the screenshot. I have noticed before that the sidebar widgets get messed up.
TracyMemberthank you both, it did seem to be resolved yesterday but after reading your replies I just changed it from 50% to 49.5% because you both know more than I do for sure. thanks...
TracyMemberanitac I am home on a different computer again and all 3 browsers show the .home-middle.widget with the 2 - 50%width correctly now. working on this site have been fairly strange in the fact that IE displays differently and I am still struggling with some custom color styles not changing on a couple of other computers. for now, I guess I will watch and eventually the changes may resolve??
ThankyouTracyMemberso... now I am home again and 3 browsers view identical with my custom css colors and no background image in the footer anymore. the 2 computers at work no longer are showing the background image in the footer but the color changes I made still haven't changed. Weird, weird, weird.
TracyMemberThankyou for your post David. I still saw the background image this morning on my home computer with IE and deleted the browsing history. That removed it and it is also gone now from the 2 work computers thank god but my custom css heading colors and menu bar color are still the original.
thanks again..TracyMemberthanks Dave, it is very strange to me, I know IE is a bit quirky but after investigating further from my 1 computer at home Google Chrome and Firefox are fine but IE on 3 different computers show the original css colors, ie; not my custom styles I've listed below..
*top navigation bar should be red
*links and contact button in the middle should be a darker blue
*headings in the sidebar should be a teal background color
*the genesis responsive slider excerpt background should be #222
*no background image in the footer section
*viewing the site in IE
And, on 2 different computers at work both with IE and same operating systems 1shows the background image in the footer and the other doesn't. Weird. I don't know how to make the changes for IE???
Can anyone help me with this? thankyouTracyMemberThanks so much Robin.
TracyMemberOops, under Genesis theme settings (which I looked at many times) I couldn't
see anything there to tick which I have seen before so I opened the screen
options and checked it. Thanks for your help, got it now.Tracy
